Thanks to its unique location surrounded by the Low and Western Tatras, Liptov offers a wide range of cycling trips with different difficulty levels, distances, and terrain types. For this selection, we\u2019ve chosen four cycling routes ranked by difficulty and variety, showcasing what the region has to offer.<\/p>\n

City cycling trail for families with children<\/h2>\n

The town of Liptovsk\u00fd Mikul\u00e1\u0161<\/a> recently opened another section of its urban cycling route, which follows the V\u00e1h River from the Okoli\u010dn\u00e9 district on the edge of town all the way to the Liptovsk\u00e1 Ondra\u0161ov\u00e1 district. The cycling path is a favorite spot for both locals and visitors looking for active relaxation. It stretches for about 6.6 kilometers and is ideal for families with small children who can safely ride and play on a well-maintained asphalt path without traffic. Since the route runs through the town, it\u2019s easy to stop for a quick snack or treat the kids to an ice cream along the way. Plus, you get great views of the wider Liptov region<\/a> as you ride.<\/p>\n

Around Liptovsk\u00e1 Mara for Advanced Cyclists<\/h2>\n

One of the most popular cycling loops in the Liptov region is the scenic ride around Slovakia\u2019s largest water reservoir<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The route can start in the center of Liptovsk\u00fd Mikul\u00e1\u0161 and head toward Liptovsk\u00e1 Ondra\u0161ov\u00e1 and Trnovec, or in the opposite direction through the Pal\u00fadzka and Sv\u00e4t\u00fd Kr\u00ed\u017e districts. From there, you simply follow the main road toward the village of Vlachy, reaching the dam wall and the iconic Church of the Virgin Mary. Just above this area lies another major attraction\u2014the Celtic settlement of Havr\u00e1nok. The route is approximately 40 kilometers long, and experienced cyclists can complete it in about two hours. It is also suitable for road bikes.<\/p>\n

Intense climb to \u017diarska chata<\/h2>\n

One of the most popular and most visited valleys in the Western Tatras is \u017diarska Valley, which ends at \u017diarska Chata mountain hut. While this area is mainly known for hiking and, in winter, ski touring trips toward \u017diarske Saddle, it\u2019s also a great challenge for cyclists. Starting from the main parking area, you\u2019re in for a 5-kilometer climb of moderate to high intensity. Over this distance, you gain almost 400 vertical meters with an average gradient of 7.3%. At the top, you\u2019re rewarded with refreshments on the sunny terrace of the mountain hut and a relaxed descent back down the valley.<\/p>\n

Moderate MTB route to Svidovsk\u00e9 Saddle<\/h2>\n

For mountain biking enthusiasts, there\u2019s a solid mid-difficulty climb to Svidovsk\u00e9 sedlo<\/a> above Liptovsk\u00fd J\u00e1n. You can start directly in the village. The first roughly 12 kilometers follow an asphalt road behind Liptovsk\u00fd J\u00e1n, passing the popular Stani\u0161ovsk\u00e1 Cave. With a mix of gentle climbs and short descents, you continue toward a forest ranger station, then switch to a forest road that leads beneath Ohni\u0161te until you reach Svidovsk\u00e9 sedlo. The return can be the same way, or you can extend the ride with a longer loop descending on the other side via the quarry down to the village of Malu\u017ein\u00e1, and then return back to Liptovsk\u00fd J\u00e1n.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
