Anyone taking up this sport needs the right gear: specialized skis with touring bindings, climbing skins for traction, poles, and ski touring boots that offer flexibility for climbing while still providing solid support for descents. Ski tourers also often carry avalanche safety equipment, including beacons, shovels, and probes, along with the knowledge needed for avalanche prevention and rescue.<\/a><\/p>\n

If you\u2019re trying ski touring in Jasn\u00e1 for the first time, avoid unknown or risky terrain at all costs. Your first steps can safely happen on Jasn\u00e1\u2019s resort slopes, where designated ski touring routes run along the edges of selected ski runs. Without experience\u2014or an experienced guide\u2014you should absolutely avoid heading off-piste.<\/p>\n

From L\u00fa\u010dky to Chopok<\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/h2>\n

This route is suitable for beginners\u2014but only if you have solid fitness and enough downhill experience to handle a demanding black ski run. The climb starts in L\u00fa\u010dky<\/a> at 943 meters (3,094 feet) above sea level and follows the ski slope all the way to Chopok, one of Jasn\u00e1\u2019s most popular summit destinations. It begins with a relatively easy ascent through Vyhliadka, followed by a steeper climb over Rovn\u00e1 Ho\u013ea and a traverse beneath Konsk\u00fd Gr\u00fa\u0148. From there, it\u2019s a final stretch up a section that\u2019s often icy and windy before reaching Chopok at 2,024 meters (6,640 feet). For the descent, you can ski back down or use the cable car.<\/p>\n

From Krupov\u00e1 to Kamenn\u00e1 Chata<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
Chopok\u2019s southern side is also one of the most popular starting points for ski touring routes. You can begin either from Srdie\u010dko (1,213 m \/ 3,980 ft) or from the slightly lower Krupov\u00e1 (1,084 m \/ 3,556 ft). From Krupov\u00e1, the route climbs through Zadn\u00e9 Dere\u0161e, making for a fairly steep but non-technical ascent. Beneath Dere\u0161e, you\u2019ll connect to a blue ski slope that winds through the mountain much like a classic summer Alpine trail. From there, all that\u2019s left is a moderate ridge climb, where you\u2019ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the entire Liptov, the Dere\u0161e cirques, and the opposite side stretching toward Brezno.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

You can even rent ski touring gear directly at Hotel Dru\u017eba<\/a> and head out to explore the surrounding area as a beginner. Complete beginners can test their fitness with an ascent to Priehyba Saddle via route 2b. If you already have experience and your fitness and technical skills are solid, you can continue by traversing toward Rovn\u00e1 Ho\u013ea and join the route mentioned earlier in our recommendations. From there, you can make your way all the way up to Chopok and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, with the High Tatras<\/a> visible in the distance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

From Chopok to \u010eumbier<\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/h2>\n

The cable car to Chopok opens this route to a much wider range of people who might not feel confident tackling the steep ascent and over 1,000 meters of elevation gain on their own. The Chopok\u2013\u010eumbier<\/a> traverse is still considered accessible even for less experienced ski tourers. The route starts at the upper station of the Funitel cable car, where you begin by descending east along the marked summer trail (red markers) through Konsk\u00e9\u2014the steepest section of the descent\u2014down to Dem\u00e4novsk\u00e9 Saddle.<\/p>\n

From there, you put your skins back on and climb via Kr\u00fapovo Saddle up to \u010eumbier. The ascent is about 4 km long with roughly 300 meters of elevation gain. The trickier part is the descent. If you lack experience, it\u2019s safer to return to Chopok and ski down from there or take the cable car. There are also skiable descent options without additional climbing. From Dem\u00e4novsk\u00e9 Saddle, you can drop into a wide gully and, depending on conditions, ski all the way down to Trango\u0161ka or traverse further toward Kosodrevina. Another option is a descent via the M. R. \u0160tef\u00e1nik Hut down to Trango\u0161ka. If you choose a more demanding descent, avalanche gear is essential, and you should strictly follow avalanche safety rules.
