Nearly 470,000 guests stayed overnight here that year. Only the capital city and the Poprad district, home to the High Tatras, welcomed more visitors. Did you know that during the spring months, Liptov offers one of Slovakia\u2019s most thrilling whitewater rafting experiences? The wild Bel\u00e1 River is typically rafted from Podbansk\u00e9, starting near the Kokava Bridge, with routes stretching all the way to the town of Liptovsk\u00fd Hr\u00e1dok<\/a>. The best conditions usually come in late spring, when melting snow from the surrounding mountains swells the river and creates the perfect rush. That makes late April and May the ideal time to plan your trip. Bel\u00e1 is considered one of Slovakia\u2019s most beautiful natural rafting routes\u2014but also one of its most challenging. An Impressive Natural Rock Arch in the Low Tatras<\/h2>\n

Low Tatras are filled with lesser-known natural wonders, and one of their best-kept secrets is the hike to Ohni\u0161te Peak, home to a unique 10-meter-high natural rock arch that\u2019s mostly known to locals. Marked hiking trails lead toward Ohni\u0161te from the villages of Liptovsk\u00fd J\u00e1n, Malu\u017ein\u00e1, or directly from the town of Liptovsk\u00fd Hr\u00e1dok. Reaching the actual summit, though, takes a bit more effort\u2014you\u2019ll need to leave the marked trail and push through dense forest on a steep climb. Thermal Spring Kalameny<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

Tourists are usually familiar with the water parks Tatralandia<\/a> and Be\u0161e\u0148ov\u00e1<\/a>, which attract thousands of visitors every year and are well known even in neighboring countries. But if you\u2019re looking for a more local experience, don\u2019t miss the thermal spring in Kalameny, not far from the better-known spa village of L\u00fa\u010dky. The spring was created in 2000 by a deep drilling project, bringing warm water to the surface at around 33\u00b0C (91\u00b0F). That makes it possible to enjoy these \u201cnatural baths\u201d even in the middle of winter. And the best part\u2014it\u2019s completely free to enter. The village keeps the area well maintained, with seating areas and a fire pit nearby. The water is lightly mineralized, has a strong sulfur smell, and is known for its slightly orange tint. If you\u2019re planning a full-day trip, it\u2019s worth combining it with a hike up to the ruins of Liptov Castle<\/a> or a visit to the nearby waterfall in L\u00fa\u010dky.<\/p>\n

The Slia\u010d Travertine Formation<\/h2>\n

Apart from the well-known travertine formations near Be\u0161e\u0148ov\u00e1, you can find another interesting natural site just east of Vy\u0161n\u00fd Slia\u010d, about a 10-minute drive from Ru\u017eomberok. The Slia\u010d travertine is a large mound of white travertine formed by active carbon dioxide gas emissions. Mineral-rich water with a distinctive smell flows to the surface through managed springs at the base of the formation, gradually building up this natural structure over time. The protected area also includes a flat marshland with typical bog vegetation and wildlife. This nearly untouched natural site is accessible via a narrow paved road with no hiking signage, making it one of Liptov\u2019s truly overlooked attractions.<\/p>\n
